Life on Phu Quoc Island – Bambusa Resort 2020
In November of 2020, we decided to move out of the big bustling city of Saigon and try living on Phu Quoc island for a month. Mary set up the whole thing. She told me that we will be staying in a resort because she was able to get a really good deal during this pandemic time with no tourists in the country.
Not quite what I expected but this was our new home for the next month. It had a real cabin in the woods feel to it. It’s like we went on an extended camping trip. You can really connect with nature here. Big change from life in the big city ya know, but they had power and WIFI so that’s all we really needed. The cabin had a really large bathroom where you can hear lots of nature sounds while you shower.
Here’s a little tour of what the resort had to offer. There was a nice little pool area to go swimming, or relax in the sun. A kids play area, A large restaurant and bar with lots of seating.
One thing I really liked was when you ordered a long island iced tea they gave me the coke as well. Was a pretty decent deal.
I spent a lot of time out here editing some of my first YouTube videos. This was the time when I launched my channel. Exactly 1 year ago now.
They had a recreational area out back with a foosball table, a pool table with 1 missing ball and a simple gym. Little garden area in the back As well.
The resort came with a lot of pets. many dogs, and a cute little baby one too. Some fish, a few geckos and lizards crawling around, one got stuck in our room and would talk to us at night. And a few other types of creatures as well.
On our second day here a guy from the resort gave us a ride in an old US Army Jeep left over from the Vietnam war. Was a pretty interesting experience. The thing was so old it ended up breaking down before we got back. He was able to show us where the beach and grocery store was though.
There was a few shack stores close by where you can get some essentials, fruits and vegetables, some raw street meat, and can even buy a live chicken! Thought it might be funny to buy one and keep it as a pet. We did get to try a fresh chicken like this but that’s later in the story.
Had my first ever motorbike lesson from the manager at the resort. Thought it would be best to learn on the island vs risking my life trying to drive for the first time in Saigon. The traffic there is beyond crazy even for the most experienced drivers. As soon as I got comfortable on the bike we started to explore the island.
Here are a few things to do on the island that we enjoyed and suggest you try on your next trip to Phu Quoc Vietnam.
