Tháp Xá Lợi Pagoda, Lady Buddha and Monkey Mountain Danang Vietnam

Son Tra (Monkey) Mountain is a beautiful place filled with bonsai trees, friendly monkeys, and a giant statue that stands 67 meters tall. It is set on top of a lotus-shaped platform and you can see it from miles away.

The statue is of Guan Yin the goddess of mercy and compassion. She observes all sounds of suffering in the world. The locals believe her presence provides strength and protection to the fisherman below during storms and cyclones coming from the sea.

Son Tra mountain was a very special place in Vietnam. It was a prominent observation base for the american side of the Vietnam civil war, housing two radar domes that are now taken over by the Vietnamese military.

So far in my Asian adventures I’ve seen Monkey island in Thailand which somehow had no monkeys. Monkey forest in Bali which was kinda like the hood of the monkey world. I saw enough crimes there to put a man away for life. Murder, theft, unconsensual love, child abuse, you name it. And now finally the chill Buddha monkeys of Son Tra Mountain which I liked the best.
