Wat Chedi Luang Temple Chiang Mai Thailand

Let me take you back in time 700 years to the ancient kingdom of Lanna. In the 13th-century Chiang Mai was the capital city of Lanna with over 700 years of history and over 300 temples. They have little maps or models of the ancient city that remind me of the intro to Game Of Thrones.
 
One of the benefits of having sleep insomnia is a couple times a month I find myself on a night schedule. I get the rare chance to photograph their ancient ruins at night while the city sleeps. It’s peaceful and quite and all you can hear is the sounds of nature and the humming of their electrical grid.
 
One of the best times to go on an adventure is under the light of the stars just before sunrise. The gated temples often open around 4 – 5 am but no tourists show up till daylight breaks. Just a few monks doing their morning chores.
 
The Wat Chedi Luang is one of my favorite temples in Chiang Mai. It’s the biggest and lies in the heart of the old city. It’s surrounded by a giant wall and moat to protect the kingdom from their enemies.
